This double CD album has been desribed by Richard D James (the Aphex Twin) as 'like being in a power station on acid'. That is, I'm afraid, no way to describe music. When the artist likens his sound to something as utterly unsettling as that, then something very, very weird is going on. And this album, like everything by the Aphex Twin, is very, very weird, but nonetheless a great pleasure to listen to, once the initial aversion has been ignored. This is dark and warm at the same time, ambient yet urgent, comforting yet unsettling. Paradoxes abound, but suffice it to say, no Aphex Twin collection would be complete without it. ...
