Advantages: Collects Some Of His Bigger Hits With Album Tracks And Live Material

Disadvantages: Not Just A Greatest Hits Collection, Which May Put Off Some Newbies

Like most collection of hits, this is a great way for a newbie to get into the music of Jimi Hendrix. The box itself is nice and well presented and provides some nice nuggets of information about his career. The collection is split onto two disk, the first consisting of some of his biggest hits and the second containing a mixture of live material.

The picks of the first disk are most of the tracks, with the most notable of those being Purple Haze, Wind Cries Mary, Voodoo Chile, Spanish Castle Magic and Angel, which all provide a brief overview of the extent of Hendrix's range as a musician. Most of the tracks on here are weel known, but a few others that are less hailed by fans makes this a good album for its range.

The second disk containing the live material provides an insight into the nature of his work on stage that goes beyond much of his studio work and shows why he preferred the stage to the studio. The highlights on this are Fire, Machine Gun, Red House and Purple Haze, although this may be too much for a new timer unless their love of guitar work can push them towards his live material.

Good album to begin your love of Hendrix and different to many sets in that it includes live material also.

Summary: Good Colection Of A Range Of His Hits
