"Voulez Vous" was originally released in 1979 & featured 10 tracks by Abba 01) As Good As New From the first few moments of the opening tracks it becomes apparent that Abba might be moving more towards the disco sound than they had done on 1976's "Arrival" & 1977's "The Album". It's a decent opening track but by no means the best on the album. 02) Voulez Vous People listening to this album when it first came out must have been certain that Abba really had gone disco by the time this travk was over. It's a top notch slice of disco froth. Great for dancing too. 03) I Have A Dream A change ... Read the complete review

The opening track, "As good as new" is typical of a lot of this album: it contains elements of their earliest hits, and lavish orchestration (the career in stage musicals beckoning?), then there's the disco beat as well. There are plenty of hits here: "I have a dream", "Angel eyes", "Voulez vous", "Does your mother know", and "Chiquitita". Not, to my mind, the best Abba era, but not the worst either. In some ways it seemed (at the time, in the 70s) that the band were just churning it out, trying to be taken seriously and failing, and blissfully ignorant of the punk movement, which had taken over by the ... This is an album that should be in every Abba fan's collection, it has some really good songs on it. When the title track Voulez vous came out, I didn't like it much, but over the years it has grown on me, and know I see what a catchy "disco" song it is. I always liked "As good as new" (just listen to those strings) and "Chiquitita" Abba's song for UNICEF has always been a classic - especially Benny's piano playing at the end! "I have a dream" has always seemed a bit wet, but "Does your mother know" and "the King has lost his Crown" more than make up for it. Add it to your collection! ... Read the complete review

Why didn't we appreciate them when they were around? In the late 70s and early 80s, ABBA were, to put it bluntly, uncool. I mean - your mother liked them, your granny liked them, your boring little sister liked them. Nowadays things are different of course. ABBA are retro. Everybody loves them and it's okay. Unfortunately, they are no more and we have to content ourselves with their back catalogue. Voulez vous was probably their finest moment. From the faux-Handel strings of As Good As New, this is an album to listen to again and again. Okay, so it has the sugary Chiquitita and the naff beyond compare I Have A Dream. But set against ...
