Pantera’s second album was one of the greatest rock albums ever made. It’s an incredible album with non-stop hits. It contains every thing anyone could ask for. It has pumping hard core instrumentals with “F**cking hostile” from the slow songs which they do great. They paved the road for many other bands. While this wasn’t their best album it does go down as one of my favorites. When I go places no matter where I pop in this 11-track album. Now this is my first album I will be rating so I will explain to you my simple scoring method. First I break down all the tracks into paragraphs and I rate each individual track and at the end I’ll take out my trusty calculator and find an average.

Track 1: Mouth of War
The intro is very important in an album. In a rock album it’s supposed to get you pumped and deliver the mood of the CD. This track delivers that exactly. It talks about those people that talk behind your back about stuff that isn’t true. Great instrumentals. This song isn’t the best but it does its job. It shows that this album will pack a lot of vengeance and power. Score: 4

Track 2: A New Level
This track packs a lot of anger. Showing that they have gotten stronger since they came along and they really had. Though this is another good track I don’t feel it’s one of their better ones. Great instrumentals.
They speed up during the verses while slowing own for the chorus. Not their best work but definitely up there. Score: 3

Track 3: Walk
This was the most popular track on the album. Mostly because it’s Rob Van Dams intro music for ECW. It’s a good track and letting the person this song is dedicated to know that Phil (vocals) doesn’t mess around. There is a catchy guitar rhythm and chorus. The lyrics pack a lot of power. Phil talks about a friend that he has no interest in and he tells him to have respect for those whom are better a
nd walk away. This track has a similar feel as the first one. Score: 4

Track 4: F**cking Hostile
This is an impressive song with it’s driving instrumentals and fast paced vocals. He talks about the people who are pushing him. Once again similar to tracks 1and 3. I love this song though it’s short. They clearly state that they rule and the other small ones are under their enormous shadow. Score: 5

Track 5: This Love
Starts off slowly talking about a love that never existed. He never wanted to be with this woman but: love was twisted and pointed at you” say it all. Then the hard chorus comes in. He says that this person made him unhappy so he took his life and left love with her. The mixture of slow songs with the hard core chorus make this one of their best. The instruments switch up greatly and a great solo at the end make this on unforgettable. Score: 5

Track 6: Rise
Talks about a revolutionary rise. What their group is I’m not sure but they form the south so it’s the red neck rise to power. Great driving instrumental. Vocals are intense as they talk about their plan to be in power. They talk about forgetting the past and concentrating on the rise of power. This is also an awesome track. Even though this sounds a bit confederate like it’s still a great song. Score: 5

Track 7: No Good (attack the radical)
This song talks about what’s wrong with America. It says to know where you stand. It has it’s little rap part. Talking about violence in your city. They say to forget about race and now where you stand. I also enjoy this track but it’s not as good as some of the tracks on this album. Still Great instrumentals and vocals. Score 4

Track 8: Living in a Hole
I like the intro on this song. It lasts for a good while before the vocals kick in. The vocals are pretty well done in this one. There are some really profound lyrics in this one but they
don’t all hover around one issue. Except the evolution of Phil. Good song. Score 3

Track 9:Regular People (conceit)
One of my favorite tracks on this album. The guitar intro lasts for about 1 minute but it’s well played by Dimebag Darrel. This is another song that packs power. Phil is saying that he’s been on the road that all these wannabes have been on. He’s telling them to keep there distance but they lack the testicular fortitude to be like him. I love this track because he tells those suckers where they stand. Score: 5

Track 10: By Demons Be Driven
This is one of their best. They talk about the fall of the youth of this generation. The instrumentals are at an all time high in this one. He says that religion is old now and that all this generation is under the influence of demons. The chorus is really good as the versus. This is one of their best works ever. I really like this track. Score: 5

Track 11: Hollow
This shows the softer side of Pantera. Phil talks about the death of his best friend in this emotional song. He writes that the death came so suddenly. At the funeral he reminisces about his departed friend. They keep the slow bit for a while then they switch to the harder side while still keeping the sad vibe. Now he lets His pain out with anger. I love this song, one of heir best if not the best. Score: 5

This album is one of my favorites and I would recommend it to anyone who likes rock and with an open mind. This album is well worth the cost of the CD. A must have for a fan of Heavy Metal. Though I have many friends that don’t give this album a shot I think everyone should at least hear this album through once.
