Following on from Cowboys From Hell, this album is the perfect successor. The cover depicts a man being punched in the face, and that exactly what you’ll get as soon as you press play. This album is like being hit as hard as possible for 45 minutes or so. Walk, Mouth of War and Hollow are all outstanding examples of what Pantera can do.

Perhaps the appeal of this album is that, unlike most Pantera, it’s actually varied! The songs do sound very different and there are a lot of different styles here, although all mixed in with that trademark Pantera riffage. It is surely for this reason that critics and fans alike claim this to be Pantera’s finest hour, and who am I to disagree. Without doubt their best album, it’s a shame they couldn’t have kept it up.
