Helloween are the most important band in the evolution of power metal, and their debut album 'Walls of Jericho' remains their finest work, rooted in a faster and heavier approach to traditional eighties heavy metal. Kai Hansen isn't the most impressive vocalist in the world, but his high wails in 'Ride the Sky' and 'Metal Invaders,' among others, are more than adequate, especially as they're overshadowed by his inspirational guitar playing. Not every song here is a classic, but they're all of a very high quality without exception, the finale 'How Many Tears' even being a pleasant surprise for not being a predictable ballad.
