...this is only a test... Second opinion for me, another one about a Green Day's album. Hoping this will be better ("learn from your errors"), this time I would to talk to you about the latest album by this band. I buyed it just when it came out in store, 'cause I had wait too much for their return and I didn't want to wait one only minute more. So, let's analyse the album. It's formed by 12 songs. The principal characteristic of this album is that it's quite more calm than the previous. Many people said that here the Green Day are unrecognizables 'cause they don't say so many swearword. I think that those persons are wrong, there's no need to swear at someone or something to make good songs, and now I'll try to explain you why this is a good album with good songs... Here you are the 12 tracks: .:WARNING:. This is the title-track of the album, it's a simil-ballad wich sends you a message: "Live without warning", don't think so much on wich you must or have to do. Live and stop. Here there is also an attack to the police "is the cop or mine what that's really dangerous?" and an invite to be a rebel or to "shut up and be a victim of authority". .:BLOOD, SEX & BOOZE:. The scene which presents this song is: he, gagged up to a chair who likes all this... "Some say I’m disturbed But it’s what I deserve, another lesson To be learned… from a girl called kill" .:CHURCH ON SUNDAY:. For me, the best song of this album. It's a love song (in Green Day's style, obviously). A love story ended, but which could continue only if... "If I promise to go to church on Sunday, will you go with me on Friday night?" Nice music, nice lyrics. .:FASHION VICTIM:. This song is about all the people wich are victim of fashion. The portrait designed by Green
Day is this: the person who go to the dog and pony shows, who follows the dress codes and auction his/her life. At the end of the song there's a question "What's in a name?". Yeah, what's in a name? .:CASTAWAY:. Nothing to say... only very good arrangement, the guitar make me crazy! .:MISERY:. A classic ballad wich tell us 4 stories about 4 people, everyone of them with a things in common: the destination - Misery. .:DEADBEAT HOLIDAY:. .:HOLD ON:. This is an optimistic song, from the first till the last word, most of all on the refrain "When you lost all hope and excuses And the cheapskates & the losers Nothing’s left to cling onto You got to hold on to yourself". In this song there is the particularity of the sound of a glass harmonica. .:JACKASS:. Do you remember "Chump" in Dookie? Yes? Ok, it's a song wich treat the same subject: the hate towards someone. The first 2 lines of the song tell all: "To know you is to hate you So loving you must be like suicide". Dedicate it to one of your enemy ;) .:WAITING:. Another song to dedicate to one of your enemy, another think-positive song, wich talks about a revenge and ends with a menace "Dumbstruck Colour me stupid Good luck You’re gonna need it Where I’m going if I get there" .:MINORITY:. Absolutely my hymn. A great song, the first single took from this album. A hymn for a generation, a generation who don't want to be the USA president or something similar, we wanna be the minority! We don't need their authority! .:MACY'S DAY PARADE:. The album ends with this ballad, pretty nostalgic "When I was a kid I thought I wanted all the things that I haven’t got" and a certainty "Because I’m thinking about a brand new hope The one I’ve never known
216;cause now I know its all that I wanted" In the end, a good album, even if different from the previous albums. Maybe some fans of Green Day may not like this new dimention, but I'm sure that if they listen to the album wihtout expectations, they would be satisfied. .:Simone Kay:.

- 19/10/01 Huge improvement, a very good music review, they tend to be pretty hard nuts to crack (for me at least) this is a fine review. Good album too :) |

- 18/10/01 Sorry, have to agree with Spacelamb. Sometimes running a spell and grammar check in Word helps too as it gets rid of the more common typos (eg wich). I didn't rate this VU as I was not able to understand the meaning of some of your sentences. I think it would have been VU if you had conveyed your opinion in a slightly clearer fashion. |
