I am happy to report, however, that W/P does contain some dazzling tracks. In this modern age of convenience, I would highly recommend downloading "El Capitan" from iTunes - it's beautiful. A chilling piano intro stumbles into a free flowing and moving verse which then explodes into a pounding chorus. Some great lyrics in the song too - &qu...more

Premium Review Warnings/Promises - Idlewild: Idlewild Album Promises To Impress (596 words)
by - written on 15/11/07 (Very useful, 68 readings)
Rating:

Idlewild are a Scottish rock band that formed in the December of 1995, and since then have released six studio albums to date. Over the years, Idlewild have built up a large fan base and have impressed many with their brand of indie rock music. 'Warnings/Promises' was released in 2005 and I’ve read a fair few reviews where people have criticised this album from Idlewild, saying that with this release the band are devoid of what made them so great in the past, saying that they’ve now lost all their edge and are no longer producing the great albums that they once were. I would say that the people that say this are talking rubbish – sure the band progressed from their ...  Read the complete review

Ever since I heard "American English" (from album "The Remote Part") for the first time back in 2002, I have been an avid follower of Scottish rock band Idlewild. Soon after buying "The Remote Part" (which I would highly recommend) I quickly filled out my collection with their previous three albums. I loved their sound - hard, verging on punk at times, with engrossing lyrics and with a powerful and melodic lead singer in the form of Roddy Woomble (perhaps one of the best names in rock music?) I was keen for more... "Warnings / Promises" was released in 2005. Such a fan had I become, I even pre-ordered the album ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Warnings/Promises - Idlewild: Maybe One Day We Will Be There (865 words)
by - written on 09/06/05 (Very useful, 216 readings)

This year has already seen the return of a number of different bands. The Stereophonics and Feeder are both back with new albums, but one that's really slipped under the sensors of the musical press is the return of Idlewild. It's been 3 years since Roddy and co last graced our stereos with The Remote Part, but after a few line up changes Idlewild are back. In 2002, The Remote Part seemed to advance the bands sound and moved them away from the Indie Rock tunes of 100 Broken Windows. One of the most noticeable points on Warnings/Promises is the move further away from 100 Broken Windows. There are still a few Indie Rock tracks on this album but it's more like ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Growing Up or Getting Boring? (710 words)
by - written on 19/06/07 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

A lot was expected of Roddy and gang after their widely acclaimed, commerically successful UK number 3 hit 'The Remote Part' back in the summer of 2002. The album offered a new variety of Idlewild songs branching out into the Pop and Indie franchises, while maintaining their roots in the Punk-Pop background they'd so vigourously emerged from. But has everything changed too much since that hazy summer almost three years ago? Did Idlewild - minus Bob plus two - spend too much time on Californian Beaches and in Swedish bars since 'You held the world in your arms' took Top of the pops and all indie clubs by storm? The album itself starts, as like most ...  Read the complete review

Products similar to Warnings/Promises - Idlewild

The production is second to none, structurally the band's songs have never been better Some may consider it to be too similar to their previous album

The mid-section of the album is great fun! A great 'energetic' sound! Going Nowhere is a classic! The start of the record is a disaster. The album plays it WAY too safe!

Classic, raw, brilliant music with an attitude Timeless albums have no disadvantages

Songs grow on you. None.

The Hanging Garden is incredible, Robert Smith has really become his own man Robotic drums throughout won't be for everyone, REALLY downbeat songs

Forms an important part of 80s music. A fair few ordinaty tracks to be skipped over.
