Irish Heartbeat - Van Morrison
by GentleGenius - written on 25/11/08 (Very useful, 507 readings)
Rating:
All instruments played by The Chieftans Guest vocalists: Mary Black, Maura O Connell, June Boyce ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Van Morrison and The Chieftans got together to produce this album in 1988, a lot of people declared that it was an "uneasy collaboration". Whether in reality that was true or not, I have no idea and it s not for me (or for those people, I don t think) to say, but as far as I am concerned and at least from the musical aspect, it s a very harmonious collaboration. On "Irish Heartbeat", we have a mostly wonderful blend of one very long-standing Irish singer/songwriter, with one of Ireland s best known ...
Tears Of Stone - Chieftains

CD title "TEARS OF STONE". This CD is amongst my best buys! Combine The Cheiftains music with some superb female vocalists and you have a gem of an album to listen to. I won't list every track, but I will mention a few of my favourites The first track is a talk track, with background music composed by Paddy Molony. It is the voice of Brenda Fricker (better known from the TV series casualty) speaking the words of W.B. Yeats, and is entitled "Never give all the heart". It is bitter ...

On 'Tears of Stone' The Chieftains joined up with a variety of wonderful female singers to give traditional Irish songs a modern feel. Each song on this CD features a different female singer (the list includes:- Joan Osborne; The Corrs; Natalie Merchant, Sinead O' Connor and Mary Chaplin Carpenter). My favourite tracks from Tears of Stone are Joan Osborne's goosebump-inducing rendition of Raglan Road. I am not a huge Corrs fan, but I loved them singing I Know My Love (a very bouncy and upbeat song). Siuil A Run is one of those songs that never fails to move and The Fiddling Ladies will certainly get your feet tapping. One song is sung in Japanese (I ...
