Watermark opens up with the albums brilliant title track, and the cerebral and ambient mood which is created is an excellent introduction before the much darker and slightly brooding Cursum Perficio and just like that, within two tracks of Enya's breakthrough album we have enjoyed both extremes of her works. By far the best track on the album is the heart warming Exile, which is as beautiful and sombre piece of music as you could ever hope to hear, especially with the inclusion of a pipe solo at the heart of the piece. This Enya album is full of such mellow and relaxing sounds that surely anyone would appreciate it. From the second it starts with Watermark you know you're in for a musical experience with ups and downs... The piano on the opening piece with the vocals work wonders. The best songs include On Your Shore which has great vocals (lyrical) from Enya throughout overlaying on great music. The slightly more moodier Miss Claire Remembers is superb, which then goes into the absolutely excellent Orinocco Flows. This is a must for any fan of Enya, or of just generally good music! ... It took me a long time to get into Enya. I heard her singles - Orinoco Flow etc but it was a bit too dreamy for me - too clever. Then back in 1993, we went over to the Isle of Man and had a barbeque in a restored thatched cottage. This album was playing on the stereo and it was perfect. A gaelic artist being played in a Gaelic cottage. Since then I have bought 3 of her albums and have also got into Clannad. Enya sings in English and Gaelic - the latter perfectly suited to the style of her compositions. She also manages to include the native Irish instruments.
