I love the pixies. I think they are great. Unforunately, whenever I tell my friends how awesome they are, they laugh in my face. Personally, I blame Rihanna.
But for people who do know and appreciate great music, this Best of is a good way of getting in to the pixies. This has all of their best known songs, like the brilliant Hey, where is my mind etc. But it also has some of the more obscure ones. Debasser, showcases Black Francis' voice well. It seems to me that many people think he has a bad voice. I don't think this to be true at all, he has a unique and very expressive voice, conveying feeling to the listner. Songs like the thrilling Debasser, best line - "gouging out eyeballs", and monkey gone to heaven show people that they can be clever and left field, but damn, do they also know how to write a pop song. "Here comes my man" is almost the perfect song, musical genius. And thats what the pixies tipify, experimentation, with great songwriting.
