The Pipettes (in this format) were a 3 piece girl band from Brighton, formed of Gwenno, RiotBecki, and Rosay. RiotBecki and Rosay have since left the group. "We Are The Pipettes" was the debut album by the Pipettes, which reached 41 on the album chart in 2006. The pipettes were formed by Monster Bobby in order to replicate the girl-group sound of the 1960s, with a modern twist. The lineup which recorded this album was the band's 3rd line up. (I've tried out a new style of reviewing for this album, do you like it? Can you leave a comment if you do/don't, so I can either keep it or go back to my old style.) We Are The Pipettes ... You know how sometimes you feel so taken over by music that you just want to get up and dance? How the perfect combination of a record that is great for the summer and getting your feet moving is a rare thing? I was often searching for a record like that a few years back and a friend of mine turned round and made a reccomendation. Cue The Pipettes and their debut album 'We Are The Pipettes'. Singer-songwriter Monster Bobby formed the three piece in 2003. The thing about The Pipettes is on the surface they could be called just another girl band but this album pushes the boundaries on anything that manufactured pop has ever dared to do. The Pipettes themselves ... Read the complete review

Imagine if you threw in all the classic girl groups into a blender. You would end up with my new favourite band, the Pipettes,. This all female, polka dot clad, indie pop trio consisting of Gwenno, Rosay, and Riot Becki have created a fantastic album full of catchy, sassy, fun, up beat three minute (and under) pop songs with the odd ballad thrown in for good measures. Their formula for success is simple. The first thing you will need is a classic 1960s girl group. I would recommend someone with a pedigree such as the Shirelles, the Ronnettes or the Shangri las. You need to take some of their best song such as “ Will You Still love me Tomorrow” “Be my ... Read the complete review

I absolutely fell in love with the Pipettes the first time I saw them - in a sea of indie boys with guitars, they were churning out fantastic pop tunes. But most important for me, they were having fun with it, a point evident in the opening (and title) track, "We Are The Pipettes". Their very own theme tune serves as an introduction to the album (and and at one point, to their gigs), and although I rarely listen to it on its own, it's the kind of song that an album like this needs to start with - tongue firmly in cheek, UFO sound effects and all. As the three front-women assure us that "they haven't finished with [us] yet", we start ... Read the complete review

I recall seeing a television advert for “We Are the Pipettes” a while ago and wasn’t sure if they were meant to be a novelty act or not. Whilst the music was pretty good, they were three girls, singing 60s influenced songs and all dressed in the same outfits. The first thing that came to my mind was that they were a copycat Sheila’s Wheels. As is the way with such adverts, I promptly forgot about them until reminded recently and thought I’d give them a try. After all, the image might have been a little dodgy, but I was bought up on 60s music and I’ve always had a soft spot for it. “We Are The Pipettes” is one part opening track and one part statement of ...
