Advantages: The world will know about this album
Disadvantages: Not a glowing report by a Pulp fan
Two weeks ago I bought the new pulp album,"We Love Life!"I am a massive Pulp fan. I have "His N' Hers," "Different Class," "Countdown," and "This is Hardcore!" I loved all of those albums and thought, even though I was in the minority, that "This is Hardcore" was an excellent album as well. Throughout the last two weeks I have been listening to, "We Love Life," and came to the conclusion that it is a very weak album. If you put it track for track with every pulp album, this one comes off as the weakest one. I am, in no way, saying that is is terrible. There are some really good tracks. 'The night that Minnie Timperley Died,' and 'Bad Cover Version' spring to mind. But in between that we get an iconic figure singing and talking about mundane things. I really could write about those damn weeds or The Trees or even the birds in my garden. 'I love Life' is another piece of anti Radiohead-esque-loser-song rubbish that Jarvis Cocker goes on television and bemoans. In the words of Thom Yorke from the album "Ok Computer", 'I was let down and hanging around!' I waited years for this album and I feel so disenchanted by it. The great bands of the nineties have let us all down in , this, the new millenium. Pulp, Radiohead, Blur, Oasis and even Placebo have just sent out some half baked, ten minute albums, knowing that we are gullable enough to buy them. And yes . "This is Hardcore" is much better than this piece of tosh

- 22/11/01 If it's that bad, why have you given it 3 stars? I'm slightly baffled. |
