A good Pulp album, but not their best... (We Love Life - Pulp)

Advantages: Good songs, Different to lots of other bands, Great lyrics

Disadvantages: Took ages to come out, Won't appeal to everyone

Pulp have to be one of my favourite bands, so when I heard they were releasing this album (We Love Life) last year, at the end of 2001, I was very happy - even though the wait for it was nearly three years. Musically, the album did come as quite a surprise, as it is fairly different to other Pulp albums that I own.

One thing about this album is that it is slightly different to older Pulp material, i.e. from Different Class and His 'n' Hers, it is still very good and catchy, and has some really good songs, but I don't think it would appeal to everyone. My favourite tracks are the singles the Trees, Sunrise and Bad Cover Version, but many of the tracks are good in their own ways. I wasn't particularly disappointed by the songs on 'We Love Life', this album was definitely worth waiting three years to hear. If you like Pulp, you won't be disappointed.

Overall, I'd have to say that this would really only appeal to fans of Pulp in general, but mostly to those who didn't like 'Different Class' as much - if you've never heard of Pulp before, then this isn't really a good place to start, as it's not their best material - try the aforementioned 'Different Class' if you've not heard of Pulp before. This album might also appeal to fans of rock or indie/alternative music.

I think that Pulp are underrated and deserve more attention for their music, and this album deserved to do better than it did - compared to other albums, it sold fairly poorly. But to me, Pulp are a good band and I wasn't disappointed by 'We Love Life', it is a great album by a grea
t band.
