Weathered - Creed
Advantages: A couple of decent tracks
Disadvantages: Every single song sounds exactly the same as the last
Weathered is the third album by US Christian rockers Creed. It's pretty much business as usual and this album delivers more of the same from Creed whose sound has gone pretty much unchanged since their first album. There's plenty of soft melodic verses giving way to harder, distortion packed choruses on Weathered, and it feels like Creed have nailed their formula: Not very original but effective none the less.
This album has a couple of hit singles on it including "My Sacrifice" and "One Last Breath" both of which reaffirmed the band as verified chart pleasers. I quite like this album but find it hard to listen to the whole thing in one sitting, mainly because the songs tend to sound a bit the same after a while. "My Sacrifice" is probably the best track on the album, and in my opinion the band's best song to date.
The album is very one-paced with little variation to spice things up.
Creed are one of those bands that I somehow struggle to get into, despite them having a few good tracks. I've seen them live a couple of times and they were terrible but on CD they are a fairly accomplished band. I just get the feeling that they are in it for the money and fame rather than for the music. Any band that releases a "Greatest Hits" album after only 3 studio albums deserves a slap in my opinion, especially when only 2 of those albums have been commercially successful.
Anyway, personal gripes a side, this is not a bad album with a couple of fairly good songs on it. If you are a Creed fan then this album represents more songs in the same vein as Human Clay.
I wouldn't be running to the record store to pick up this album though. 3 out of 5.
Summary: Worth a listen - just about
