I complete my Weezer journey by coming back to their first release. Regular readers of my opinions will know that I have only recently gotten into this band, and have worked my way backwards through their releases, and this is their first release, so my journey is complete. This album has more in common with the Green Album, their most recent album than Pinkerton, their second album. Pinkerton is much darker, while this is a more upbeat and lighthearted effort, with tongues definitely in cheeks for a large part of the album. Weezer are a band that never really takes themselves too seriously, and there are plenty of humorous lyrics on the album, most directed at ... Read the complete review

You might look at the cover of this album, with what looks like 4 nerdy college boys on the front, and think this is going to be a twee collection of ditties. But the first track "My name is Jonas" lets you know right away what kind of thing you're in for? hard rocking, catchy tunes with plenty of hooks. There is an element of nerdiness, though, in the lyrics, or shall we say eccentricity? Singer, songwriter and guitarist Rivers Cuomo is to responsible for this, and, with the great music, it all adds up to a refreshing album. It was Weezer's debut; Ric Ocasek, from 70s band The Cars, produced it; and it was a huge success. Singles ... Read the complete review

Weezer are a very underrated band. They make awesome pop music for people who find it hard to express themselves. This band invented geek rock way back in 1994 with The Blue Album possibly one the coolest albums ever recorded. Weezer consists of Pat Wilson- drums Rivers Cuomo- vocals, guitar Brian Bell- guitar, vocals Matt Sharp- bass, vocals Where do I begin? This was an album that I fell in love way back in 1995 when it was released in England. I saw the wonderful Buddy Holly music video, which was a homage to the television show Happy Days and was instantly hooked on catchy pop and lovely lyrics. I was ... Read the complete review

What do you get if you mix Nirvana’s grunge sound with the Beach Boys amazing harmonies. The answer is Weezer. You may remember a few years ago the classic song Buddy Holly with the video set in the Happy Days show. Well this is the band that did that song and the other nine songs on this album are as good as that. This is one of those rare albums where every song is a classic. They sound great, the words are brilliant and the harmonies are amazing. If you like to Grunge/Rock/Metal music then you should own this album. If you don’t believe me then check them out on the Internet. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed. ... Read the complete review

I must admit this band caught my imagination back in the spring of 1995. 'Buddy Holly' the main single from Weezer is a great tune and was backed up by a wonderful video. On the strength of this alone I rushed out and got the album. The not so strange thing is that they disappeared almost completely once the fever created by 'Buddy Holly' died down (never heard the follow up album 'Pinkerton'). It has got to be said that Weezer were enjoyably geeky but they were never as affecting as they should have been. I mean welfare glasses and cardigans might throw some off the scent but there needs to be a bit of substance to back up a so uncool ... Read the complete review
