Once I learnt of the story from where the song came from (he got mugged but his wife beat up the muggers), then I seemed to enjoy it even more. The Rumble Strips seem to have decent influences ranging from ska through to Lou Reed, there's a nice use of sax throughout the album but you get the feeling the album sounds a bit amateurish at times - the track "London" is a pretty good example of this, th...more

Rating:

Welcome to the Walkalone is the 2nd album by London based Devon band The Rumble Strips. The album didn't chart particularly high and I have to admit I never heard of them until setting myself a task of reviewing the latest album by every Glastonbury act this year. Not The Only Person sounds pretty irritating at first but warms on you, I have to admit that I thought it would be a really annoying song but finally ended up enjoying it. Another great album Maybe not what you would have expected

Many strong songs A few 'filler' tracks

Funky, upbeat, and entertaining album well worth a listen Length of the interludes

Some big tunes Inconsistent

Pop - 2009

CALMING EFFECT LACKS SOME ENERGY

Squawk - Budgie
Some fun riffs albeit not very original None

Power Supply - Budgie
Successful reinvention, keeping up with the times. Can never be more than a second-rate Judas Priest.

Nightflight - Budgie
First song is pretty cool. The rest are fairly dull.

Never Turn Your Back On A Friend - Budgie
Budgie's style defined, and it mostly works. Soft songs are still the weakest point, and far too frequent.

Impeckable - Budgie
Consistent. Consistently weak.

In For The Kill - Budgie
Heavier sound returns, a couple of classics. Abundance of mediocrity in-between.

If I Were Britannia I'd Waive The Rules - Budgie
Maintains the annual album release pattern. A distinct slump.

Santa Monica '72 - David Bowie
Pop Rock - 1995

Bandolier - Budgie
Intriguing and diverse. Still some weak links, though less than usual.

Instruments Of Torture - Brodequin
Intense. Lacks variety.
