Advantages: FIRE
Disadvantages: Strange song titles
WEST RYDER PAUPER LUNATIC ASYLUM is the bizarelly titled album from the Leicester, indie rock band.
The album contains twelve songs that are on the whole rather good.
My favourite track on the album is FIRE. Thesong starts off slow with simple strumming off the guitar, but really comes into life on the chorus. The guitar work on the chorus is brilliant and the song is so full of energy.
The same goes for FAST FUSE which is a real fast paced song. The guitar sounds perfect on this track and is a song that gets your feet moving.
The opening track UNDERDOG starts the album off as it carries on with a strong fast paced track that is full of passion.
I wasn't so keen on WHERE DID ALL THE LOVE GO? though the lyrics on the song are actually really good, I didn't feel the music was Kasabian at their best.
Kasabian are back to near their best with the next track SWARFIGA a really hard hitting song that maybe doesn't feature the best lyrics, but the solid guitar vocals and guitar are back in force.
TAKE AIM and THICK AS THIEVES are slightly slower songs where the vocals come out nicely and you can singalong too as well.
WEST RYDER SILVER BULLET is a song that grew on me after a few times of listening. Really good lyrics and lots of energy in the guitar.
VLAD THE IMPALER and SECRET ALPHABETS are better than album filler, but on this album felt like album filler because I didn't feel they were as good as the other songs.
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN ROLL THE DICE felt like it had an eighties feel to it with some weird sounds involved although the guitar sounds great on this song.
HAPPINESS concludes the album with a great mix of strong vocals with the instruments supporting perfectly.
To me Kasabian are one of the best bands around at the moment. Their sound is unique, but really good to listen to. There is so much energy in the music you just get engrossed.
Not too many negatives, maybe some slightly dodgy lyrics a nd weird sounding song titles.
Worth a listen from 8.98 at AMAZON.
Summary: KASABIAN SOUND GREAT.
