What can I say, if you thought I was unkind about Will Young (who I actually do like 10 times better than Gareth Gates) then perhaps don't read any further. Gareth Gates, who competed with Will Young in Pop Idol, was later signed by Simon Cowel. And although I am not a fan, I think this was a good business move. This is about as nice as I can be about Gareth Gates' musical career. I think die hard teeny bopper pop fans will have appreciated the efforts of Gates, but as far as him having any longevity in his career, I dont think it is likely. In this album he covers 'Unchaned Melody' and to his credit, he can sing in tune, but his voice (though ... Read the complete review

When Gareth was on that well loved TV series, i said he was overrated, an average singer and devoid of a personality but indeed he was popular to despite not winning warrant a singing career to see if he could sell music albums as well as just making people scream. This album is quite a good one, and being critical of Gareth is something i've done from day one. The version of Unchained Melody gave me goosebumps and we see how a old song connects so perfectly with a singer that it's unbelievable - i almost believed it was Gareth's own song. Anyone Of Us, did really well as a single and it's got that brilliant chorus that doesn't leave your head to applaud. ... Read the complete review

Arrving in the shadow of Will Young was never going to be easy, yet this chap managed to pull it out of the bag and carve a decent if not shortlived pop career for himself. Who is he: Came second in Pop Idol to Will Young, Gareth released three albums and has since faded away into obscurity. On this album: His debut release starts with an obvious cover. His take on 'Unchained Melody' is sickly. It lacks the soul and warmth of the Righteous Brothers' version and even makes the Robson and Jerome effort look rather special. His voice is just too girly on it and it needed a richer voice to convey the emotion. A weak start ... Read the complete review

Ignore the title! it's the silly side of me taking over. When Will Young beat Gareth Gates to the winner of the Pop Idol back in 2002, Gareth was shell shocked as was most the public. It seems the viewing public had spotted Will was better on the whole and they had voted for the brillant soul crooner that remains in our charts today instead of the teen star that was emerging along with sympathy for his stutter. After losing it was Simon Cowells plan to release Unchained Melody as Gareths first release. Ironically he was right, Number 1 and 1.3 million total sales and the 2nd best single still of the 21st century. Second single Anyone Of Us is one of my ... Read the complete review

WHAT MY HEART WANTS TO SAY is the title of former Pop Idol runner up GARETH GATES' album. The album features 16 tracks which are mainly covers. The opening song UNCHAINED MELODY is a cover that has been done many times before. Consequently, this just sounds like all the others although the vocals are okay. It's the same with ANYONE OF US which features sound vocals, but is to much like the original. SENTIMENTAL has some cheesy lyrics which hinder the smooth melodies while the chorus is pretty weak. SUSPICIOUS MINDS is an awful cover of Elvis' classic. At this point you realie this is like listening to a club ... Read the complete review
