Jukebox - Cat Power
by SpookyMoon - written on 28/05/09 (Very useful, 9 readings)
Rating:
vibrant and airy drums and guitars and her voice teases them out playfully giving you back something different than what you would expect. The best way that I can describe the overal feeling of this is totally clever-cute. The selection of songs are taken from the jazz, blues and soul era making this album really ecclectic. Overall it has a laid back easy listening feel and this album really has a way of making you feel at ease. I could definitely recommend giving Cat Power a ...

Myra Lee - Cat Power

Rating:
Enough, slowly builds in volume and you feel like you could easily be in some subterranean venue, listening to some late night rock and roll. Because just who is Cat Power and what is her music? Only within the last few weeks have I discovered Cat Power and I now have three of her albums. All good. Myra Lee is my favourite. It’s raw. But it’s somehow sophisticated at the same time. And personal. And potent. Cat Power’s music is a blend of rock and roll, blues, rock, country (the gritty kind); yet is somehow Cat Power. Listening to her other work, you immediately recognise that Myra Lee, and Cat Power’s sound, is entirely her own. Witness: she barely seems to sing. Her ...

The Greatest - Cat Power

Rating:
nothing less than a complete shambles. Yet here we are, you reading this review and me stating now, for the record, that "The Greatest" is truly the best album Cat Power has ever released. It s a touching, powerful look into her psyche, and is as redemptive and confessional as anything Amy has released, but with a frailty that puts her in another musical league. From the powerhouse ballads to the quiet, lyrical twists she s well-known for, all that makes Cat Power the unique musical entity that she is can be found on "The Greatest", along with several new musical strengths. The songs here have a generally sparse feel, even though backing is provided ...

Most Ancient Ones - Hate Forest
Very cold and ferocious-sounding with lots of atmosphere
Very little in the way of variation
Scythia - Hate Forest
Powerful and atmospheric, with lots of subtle variations throughout
Overall sound may still be a little too impenetrable to some
Country Falls - Husky Rescue
Funky but calm and soothing music takes stress away and sends your head to the clouds.
Not an ideal listen if you need to stay focused.
Dust - Mourning Beloveth
Full of beautiful melodies, well constructed songs that take time to grow
Not the most original of albums
Revolution Roulette - Poets of the Fall
Grunge - 2008
Senor And The Queen - Gaslight Anthem
The lyrics, the variety, the utter brilliance
The length - 4 songs.
Battlefields - Hate Forest
Hugely atmospheric and moving
A little samey.
Australasia - Pelican
Great use of momentum, some great chugging riffs, atmospheric
Some may find their style a little bland
