This album was the defining moment for Oasis, and with so many great tracks, its no wonder (wall). Wonderwall is a beautiful song most of us will be aware of, and the next track 'don't look back in anger'; with its sweeping sing-a-long chorus, performs similarly, to dramatic effect. The bands first UK number 1 is also on this album (Some might say), one of my personal favorites from the album as it acts as the counter balance between soft ballads and rocky numbers. An example of one of the great slower songs on the album, although not released, is 'Cast no Shadow'. According to popular myth, the song is dedicated to Verve front-man, Richard Ashcroft.

This album caterpulted the band from indie newbies into national treasures, from the pages of NME to the airwaves of somewhat softer outputs- like Radio 2. Beatles comparisons will always be there but based on this effort they deserve high merit. 'Whats the story morning glory' defined a generation, but hasn't been left in the gutters like a lot of old albums. Come Friday night you'll probably hear 'wonderwall' echoing out of the bars, with drunken men stumbling to the microphone for the last 'your gonna be the one that saves me' line. Chances are its about the 7th time you've heard the song this week, but secretly, you know you love it really.
