... release in my opinion. Sharleen’s vocals are effortlessly beautiful, and she stands head and shoulders above some of the so called female vocalists which are finding themselves blessed with more success than their talent deserves. ”Halo” is one of the more well known tracks on the album as it was released as a single. It is a stylish track which deserved the commercial success it received, and sounds more like the earlier, more gritty raw material Texas released than anything else on this album, and it works very wel...more

Crowned Review White On Blonde - Texas: Say What You Want - I Like It (1006 words)

Rating:

Texas are the kind of band where I cannot decide if I like them a little or a lot. At times I have been known to rave about them, but then they release a single or an album which lets me down a little and then it takes me a while to come around to listening to them again. When this album was released, I liked a couple of the singles which had been released, so decided to give it a go.From the off, I want to say that whether the music the band release is to my taste, I always love Sharleen Spiteri’s voice. The album does not get off to the best of starts with “0.34”, which is basically just over half a minute of instrumental nothingness. I immediately skip ...  Read the complete review

It's been a while since I listened to this album, and was somewhat loath to before reviewing it. I had a suspicion it would be one of those albums that I enjoyed so much at the time of release that I overplayed it, leaving me with a lifelong hatred for the music. However I found, when I listened to it, that I still enjoyed this collection of light pop tunes. This was the album that first really launched Texas into the public arena, although it is in fact their fourth album. Prior to this, they'd only had minor success with the 1989 song "I Don't Want A Lover". Part of the reason for their sudden enthusiastic reception can be attributed to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review White On Blonde - Texas: Texas's return to the big time (131 words)
by - written on 02/10/00 (Useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

"White on Blonde" was the album which put Texas back on the map in 1997, and there is no doubting it is a superb album. It has 14 tracks on it, including the singles "Say What You Want", "Halo" and "Black Eyed Boy" (my personal favourite track). If you are looking for a less heralded track recommendation try listening to "Drawing Crazy Patterns", also a superb song. Indeed many of the additional tracks on this album would have been successful singles. Texas show a great versatility in this album. From the writing, the performance and Sharleen Spiteri's vocals the effects cross a range of styles, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Making of Texas, (94 words)

Although Texas had been in the charts previously they did not go big time untill White on Blonde was released. Sharleen Spiteri must be one of the best vocalists out there and this album most certainly shows this with the number of hit singles. The album starts with 'Say what you want' which I think is one of my top ten songs evr and carries on thru 'Halo' and 'Black eyed boys' which are also classics. An album that rightfully put Texas back on the top - they are also excellent live. ...  Read the complete review
