Everlast the former lead rapper in Irish, hip hop band house of pain, returns from musical obscurity with this surprisingly mature solo album. This album manages to cross hip hop beats, Everlast's gravely voice and acoustic guitar in a pleasing mish mash that doesn't sound dated twelve years after release. The four skits, for a change in a hip hop joint are pretty painless and seem to bump along with the whole album pretty well, and in fact one skit feels a little poignant what with the recently deceased legend G.U.R.U making an appearance. I have to write my opinion on what it’s like. This won’t be too hard; especially when there is a fantastic song called ‘what it’s like’ on this very album. I was urged to buy this album after hearing the heavy riff-ed ‘hot to death’ on a compilation from a magazine. Then I realised who this man was. ‘Whitey Ford’ is the ex-frontman from House Of Pain, commonly known for their most successful single ‘Jump Around’, which Limp Bizkit covered. The man is back, and he is singing the blues. Have no fear, though, just because of this, does not mean that every song will be a Ballard and really soppy blues ... Read the complete review
