30 Greatest Hits - Aretha Franklin

Premium Review Queen of soul (396 words)

Rating:

the best female singer there has ever been. No one in pop / soul comes close, and even compared to Maria Callas, or Billie Holliday - I still think that Aretha at her best is unbeatable. And this is a selection from her golden years, 1967 - 74. There are so many soul classics on here - satisfaction is surely guaranteed for anyone. It is a perfect introduction to the music of Aretha Franklin for the uninitiated, more so I would say than a greatest hits which usually just collects together all the Atlantic singles, which are wonderful, but there s more to the picture than that. This album gives the breadth of Aretha s talent as a Composer/Interpreter/Singer/Pianist and all round soul diva. The great news is it can be picked up for under £5 on Amazon and really is essential listening. The liner notes by David Nathan are superb and very informative with track information/recording dates ...

in my collection. Aretha shows all her vocal talent throughout the album and every single song is great and its not very often someone says that. As there is usually at least one weak track. The very best songs though are Rock Steady and Didn t I blow your mind this time If your like me and your too young to remember her in ...
