People have tended to write off Paul McCartney and his solo work post Beatles, which is such a shame. Macca had, and still does have a canny knack for a great tune and has written some of the greatest songs of the past fifty years. So why do people shun Wings and the solo stuff? Theres so much to enjoy here and is just waiting to be discovered - and Wings Greatest, while not particularly all encompassing, is a good start for anyone wanting to explore solo Macca. McCartney initially set himself up as a solo artists after the break-up of the Beatles, but he missed the group ethic and sought about getting a band together that could tour small venues around the UK ... Just as a general pointer, Wings albums are counted as anything after Ram and McCartney (so 1972-1980) and anything up to the Japan tour. I felt it appropriate to clarify this as Paul McCartney has, after this time, released solo albums as just Paul McCartney, although these are not relevant to reviewing Wings'Greatest. I do like all the tracks on this album and it's good for the very casual listener who likes all the hits and does not want to commit to buying more albums but it's not, in my opinion, Wings' Greatest songs.
