Advantages: A couple of decent tracks.
Disadvantages: The music is incredibly stylistically similar.
'Wisconsin Death Trip' is the debut album release from the American industrial metal band that is Static-X. The first album I heard by the band was actually the second Static-X release 'Machine', I was not impressed but out of curiosity decided to give the bands first album a listen anyway and see what Static-X had to offer with this 'Wisconsin Death Trip' album. The album contains twelve tracks and is the bands best selling album to date. 'Wisconsin Death Trip' was released in 1999 through the Warner Bros. record label.
As is the case with the bands second album 'Machine', there's quite a lack of instrumental creativity expressed here; this is a pretty standard album of industrial metal and really the band brings nothing new to the genre here. The album is not badly constructed, the tracks are for the most part incredibly similar however and this therefore detracts away from the overall quality of the album. It's not a bad album to listen to, quite frustrating sometimes that all twelve tracks are so similar however and were the band to mix it up a little with more of a varied sound then this debut album would sound a lot stronger I feel.
Tracks such as 'Bled For Days', title track 'Wisconsin Death Trip', and 'Push It' also are definite favourites of mine from this album and those tracks with which the bands sound is best put across in my opinion. The guitar riffs are heavy, the vocals are well sung out by the band, and the drumbeats also are brutally hard hitting throughout this entire album and particularly with these three tracks from the band.
If you're a fan of industrial metal then this is not a bad album to listen to, it's definitely not the best that you'll find in the genre but it's not too terrible an album anyway and certainly a lot more impressive than the bands second release 'Machine'. All is required from the band here is a little more instrumental creativity, this would vastly improve upon the overall quality of the album and would make 'Wisconsin Death Trip' a lot more enjoyable to listen to. The tracks are all incredibly similar here, the bands music is pretty interesting and the members of Static-X do clearly possess a fair amount of talent; the bands talent is just not best expressed by the fact that all twelve of these tracks are so stylistically similar. The three tracks I've outlined here are definitely worth listening to ('Bled For Days', 'Wisconsin Death Trip', and 'Push It'), the rest of the album is best left ignored however as the rest of the tracks present on the album are basically just inferior versions of these three.
Summary: 'Wisconsin Death Trip' is the debut album from Static X and was released in 1999.
