With the Beatles - The Beatles What this album does for me... I am a life long, second generation Beatles fan. I know that there are some people out there who cannot stand the Beatles; for me I grew up listening to them. I listen to this album retrospectively, I can't judge it as though I have heard it before their 1964 'Beatlemania'. I certainly do not want to offend 1st generation Beatles fans, those of you who were alive with my interpretation of this album. So please take my view as it is meant! 'With the Beatles' is a great example of some of the Beatles lesser know early music. Most of us can sing most of the words to 'She ... Read the complete review

My review of With The Beatles - by an experienced guitarist, and fan! With The Beatles was their second album, and the moody half shadow cover picture (inspired by one the artist friends they made in Germany) is now the stuff of legend. The album was also released under the title of; Meet The Beatles in the U.S. The album consists of 14 tracks -some original songs, some covers of favourite tunes(the idea of Lennon and McCartney as the world's most prolific songwriters, had yet to be fully established). This is a fine early effort for the Beatles, spawning classics such as All My Loving, and also George Harrison puts shows his budding song ... Read the complete review

Listening to these early Beatles albums I sometimes wonder if they ever believed it themselves that they were actually great songwriters and performers. Hearing this I can almost feel that this is a group of four young men having a great time trying out recording a few of their own songs and then covering popular tunes by their heroes. It's a nice vibe. This is the second offering from The Beatles. It may have been recorded the same year as their debut effort Please Please Me but this album shows noticeable sings of improvement. Not a huge amount, but enough to make you feel like things were moving in the right direction. The Tracklisting ... Read the complete review

If you're a fan of the early rock and roll Beatles sound, then this is the album for you. Released in 1963 as their second studio album, it mixed together some well known cover songs with some of the bands most original work, including George Harrisons first ever effort 'Dont Bother Me'. This is the Beatles at their most basic, and for some, at their best. Just their instruments and the new found powerful voices of Lennon and McCartney. If you're expecting hit after hit of originality then look elsewhere (White Album anyone?), as this album provides a solid continuous rock and blues sound all the way through. It even gives their take on the well known ... Read the complete review
