... Heavenly Action: Another single which was released & then flopped in the UK chart. It's a slice of pop exuberance & wouldn't sound out of place on their second album, The Circus, although, like Reunion, the chorus is perhaps used a little too often. 06) Say What: This is one you'll probably love or hate. There's a bit more of a drum programme & a few shouty background vocals that may or may not annoy you depending on your taste. The lyrics are nothing to write home about but, having said that, I've got a ...more

Premium Review Wonderland - Erasure: A Wonderland of Erasure's songs? (648 words)
by - written on 23/05/09 (Very useful, 8 readings)
Rating:

The was Erasure's first studio album, released in 1986 & contains the following tracks:- 01) Who Needs Love Like That: Originally a chart flop when it was first released, it made number 10 when it was remixed & re-released in 1992. It's a rather, catchy opening number with a strong vocal from Andy &, im my opinion, better than the 1992 remix. 02) Reunion: Mid-tempo number about a couple getting back together in which Andy sings "Reunion, together this time, Reunion, forever be mine" a little too often for my liking. 03) Cry So Easy: Another mid-tempo number which, like Reunion, is a little ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Raising the Erasure (274 words)
by - written on 24/02/09 (Very useful, 19 readings)
Rating:

As a big fan of Erasure I would like to say that all of their work is pleasing, but this is not an album which thrills me as much as some of their others. Who are they: Duo specialising in synth based pop music. Andy Bell on vocals and Vince Clarke on keyboards. Highlights: Head for the sheer pop class of 'Heavenly Action' which finds Bell on fine form, if not a little camp as he gets to grip with some love based lyrics. His performance is eccentric and he seems to bask in the glory of the kitsch element of the song. It has a good melody though and the chorus will invigorate and encourage you to dance. I also rate ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Wonderland - Erasure: Not bad for a debut (206 words)
by - written on 28/03/01 (Useful, 28 readings)
Rating:

Erasure's first album then, and it's probably not one of Andy Bell & Vince Clarke's finest moments, though it's not too bad. As is the case with Erasure right through to the present day, there's plenty of simple electronic pop on offer here, the majority of it listenable and not too embarassingly '80s. As debut albums go however it's not fantastic - the fact that the three singles lifted from it all bombed shows that they had some work to do. Some of the tracks are classic Erasure pop - 'Who Needs Love Like That' (Erasure's debut single), 'Push Me Shove Me', 'Cry So Easy', 'Heavenly Action' and ...  Read the complete review

The Stranglers of course!, Well constructed, musically, The start of great things Hmmm...

Great potential Too much twanging

Songs all cohesively flow, some monsters of tunes. Too Short? maybe.

Probably The Verve's best whole album, completely different to their later works, though song 'Blue' shows hints of what was to come It's only 10 tracks long, and sometimes the production (though sublime) is too brittle, and there are times when the whole album can blur into one and sound simply samey throughout
