This approach helped the band no-end and in February 1987 the album broke into the American top 40 reaching the number 12 position. The album gave the band two hit singles, "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong". Premium Review Woodface - Crowded House: Woodface (267 words)
by - written on 22/07/00 (Very useful, 49 readings)
Rating:

Neil Finn is frequently compared to Paul McCartney in respect of his incredible ability to manipulate melodies, but this is the album where this comparison definately works best. I think that 'Four Seasons on one day' is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of modern pop music, and is very intricate with its interplay of acoustic guitar and harpsichord. The album also contains the best known Crowded House song 'Weather with you'. The mood of this album is very laid back, exploring a whole range of emotions - and instrumentation, with the use of a full string section on 'all I ask', and a lot more keyboard textures than one other ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The mighty Finn (brothers) ! (238 words)

Crowded House are New Zealand's fab four ! The Finn brothers Tim and Neil can quite resonably be compared with their liverpudlian counterparts Lennon/McCartney without over-complimenting the newcommers or lessening the contribution made by the elder statesmen of British pop music. I found the mood of the songs on this album - possibly one of their best - ranged from sensitive with well observed lyrics on tracks like 'It's only Natural', 'Fall at your Feet' and 'Four Seasons in One Day' to fun and qwerky like the tracks 'Chocolate Cake' and 'Italian Plastic'. The antipodean, but more gentler ...  Read the complete review

The band are also known through older songs such as:- Dont dream its over and Something so strong their last album TOGETHER ALONE also had some hit singles such as:- Distant sun and Private Universe This album was origenally going to be a Finn brothers recording, Its the only Crowded House album that both ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kathy Straker, Boy She Could Lose Some Weight. (941 words)

Rating:

Before I begin, many apologies if your name is Kathy Straker. It is taken from the song "Chocolate Cake" from this album. This is not directed at anybody.....honest. Crowded House are one of those bands that you may think you've never heard before, but as soon as you listen to the music you instantly recognise the songs. Neil Finn seems to inject moments into songs that can leave you sitting in a corner of a room sucking your thum....well maybe just me. If you've never listened to Crowded House before then I suggest you read the rest of this review then go out and buy yourself this album, it's brilliant. Brief ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Woodface - Crowded House: A classic - own it or miss out (145 words)
by - written on 27/12/00 (Useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

Do you like melody, harmonies and interesting song constructions? If you do then you will love Crowded House and especially Woodface. Often conmpared with the Beatles (and rightly so) for their catchy songs delivered with great melody and various musical twists and turns, the Finn brothers make this band and this album what it is...a classic. Try 'It's only natural' for it's bigger-than-everything scenario for feeling good about each other....lovely. 'Fall at your feet' for Lennonesque lyrics and haunting chorus, in a song about forgiveness. 'Four seasons in one day' is the Finn's 'Yesterday', simple four part ...  Read the complete review
