The Goat Of Mendes - Akercocke
by Burning_Darkness - written on 01/08/09 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:
Building on the foundations of its predecessor Rape of the B*stard Nazarene , Akercocke s 2001 album The Goat Of Mendes is an excercise in ominous and shape-shifting black metal with death metal elements, merging lethargic and majestic sounding guitar riffs, dramatic and lamenting clean singing and dissonant, gothic-sounding passages with chugging, groove-ridden death metal sections, dementedly fast and melodic solos and a mix of incredibly intense rasping screams and extremely low and guttural growls, accompanied here and there by poignant strains of cello, werewolf-like howls, evil and portentous sounding synths and passages of male and female moans of ecstasy. Choronzon - Akercocke
by Burning_Darkness - written on 10/08/09 (Very useful, 26 readings)

I ve been a fan of Akercocke for many years now, probably since the release of Goat of Mendes, the following 2 albums were brilliant and Akercocke definitely forged their own unique sound, style and presence in the black/death metal scene. This album, to me, is a natural progression for Akercocke, with their trademark blast beating, Viscious growls and screams, a good dose of electronica and a crap load of Satanism thrown in for good measure. I have seen these guys live countless times at the Underworld in Camden, awesome venue, and everytime, they deliver. These guys have really put themselves up with the best alongside their bretheren from the rest of Europe, ...
