Advantages: 38 songs on a double cd . . . . WOW

Disadvantages: He is gone . Many pretenders follow .

2005 would have been John Lennon's 65th Birthday. 26 years ago , the world was robbed of a massive talent. Mark Chapman shot and killed John Lennon only hours after asking for his autograph. He claimed that voices in his head told him to do it, or at least that's what his solicitor told him to say. The man pleaded guilty and is due for release soon. The world will never see a talent like Lennon again. We should remember his music, the lyrics and the man that was John Lennon by just listening to the words he wrote.

----The music of a working class hero -----
To coincide with these anniversaries another record company has decided to cash in (sorry, let me re-phrase that), remember John Lennon by releasing another "greatest hits". I like the compilation album. Most of my CD collection is made up of greatest hits and best ofs. Normally I would have turned my nose up at this.......but........WHAT AN ALBUM. You have on these 2 CD's what can only be described as his best work. there isn't much padding to fill the album. Occasionally you get an unknown song or at least a turkey. I was hard pressed to find one. Yes I will admit that at first I didn't know all the songs, but I knew John's voice, his lyrics and his sound.

----- So, did I like it? -----
You betcha. I have always been able to take or leave the Beatles stuff. Each of the artists has had the odd song or two I have found myself singing along to. I mean George Harrison sang some great numbers, Paul Macca has sang with frogs and then there's Ringo.........didn't he sing with Thomas The Tank Engine? Don't think I am being flippant, but I still think that Mr Lennon could have sang the phonebook and I would find it haunting.

Yes, for this review anyway. Maybe it's the Man. Maybe it's the Lyrics or maybe it's the tragic history associated with this true musical legend, but I genuinely loved this album.

You will never believe how much this cd cost.........£8.99. YES! A double cd, ok I assume it is because they recon everyone has all the songs on it. It may be because it's going to be the last great John Lennon compilation album, but most likely it's to make sure switherers like me buy it.......and I did.
