'Beethoven Was Deaf' was by no means the crowning moment of Morrissey's career so rehashing it under another name so quickly is not especially clever or inspiring. World Of Morrissey is a 1995 compilation that Morrissey was obliged to release for contractual purposes. Much of the album is made up of songs from his live 'Beethoven Is Deaf' LP, the rest padded out by songs taken from his 'Boxers' single and 'Vauxhall & I' and 'Your Arsenal'. For fans who already had most or all of this material, 'World Of Morrissey' was an uneccesary release. For those new to Morrissey it has dubious merit (packed as it is with live material) as an introduction to the singer - there are much better places to start. WHO'S THIS THEN? ------------------------------ It's Morrissey, king of no-mates, bedsitter-dwellling students of the 1980s. He started off life in the band The Smiths in 1983. When they split in 1987, he went solo the following year before sodding off to live in LA in 1997 amid accusations of racism (he was draped in a Union Jack at a concert singing a song called The National Front Disco).
