Advantages: The one decent track
Disadvantages: Largely terrible
Repetitive and usually quite simplistic, I find that The Whip's electronic pop tunes become really annoying after a while, the bass lines are usually the only thing to get excited about - that and the good looking female drummer. The blokes voice is about as normal as you can get, perhaps having the least effect as a frontman I can think of.
I think the best song for me on this album is Muzzle no. 1 where the singer actually gets it together with quite a deep and robust voice, the song is catchy pop and it sort of sounds like a common version of Ricky Martin! It's here that the band's Salford roots come through as Danny Saville utilises a very similar voice to Liam Gallagher.
I find the combination of electronic and guitar music a little bit too simple again though, it doesn't really blend to well on this band's album. In fact the electronic sounds are so minimalistic at times that it sounds like a step back into the future to the very beginning of the genre.
It's so repetitive at times that it's mindnumbing. Apart from the track I mentioned, there's really nothing that stands out on this album including the other singles that were released: Sister Siam, Blackout and Trash. On top of this mediocrity, the lyrics are painstakingly pathetic when they do appear.
"Trash" - 6:22
"Frustration" - 5:00
"Fire" - 5:16
"Save My Soul" - 5:11
"Sirens" - 4:19
"Divebomb" - 5:40
"Blackout" - 6:12
"Muzzle #1" - 4:59
"Sister Siam" - 4:52
"Dubsex" - 4:09
Summary: A load of rubbish
