... bathroom floor are but two of the topics covered here. It is easy to see why Bowie dubs Young Americans as his Plastic Soul recording, because everything sounds ridiculously over arranged and carefully structured. This isn't automatically a negative thing though, as it has a tacky charm which I find very appealing. The screaming saxophones and luxurious backing vocals are to be expected and add a great deal to the song. Bowie's new favourite guitarist Carlos Alomar comes up smelling of roses on the second song, W...more

David Bowie - Young Americans (1975) Producer: Tony Visconti, David Bowie, Harry Maslin Young Americans Win Fascination Right Somebody up There Likes Me Across the Universe Can You Hear me Call? Fame The story usually goes that in a galaxy far, far away, everybody was surprised when David Bowie changed from glam-rock icon into a star studded Philadelphia crooner, often marking this as one of the more important metamorphoses in his career. The truth is that you'd have to have been an idiot not to have seen it coming. If we rewind to his previous studio album, Diamond Dogs, David was already ...  Read the complete review

Young Americans is a departure from what Bowie fans came to expect from his previous albums. Changing from the classic rock style of his previous albums, Bowie begins to delve into the style of rythm + blues. This album marks the death of such personnae as Ziggy Stardust, Alladin Sane and Halloween Jack (Diamond Dogs). The title track is a classic example of commercialism, clearly appealing to the radio audiences of the mid-seventies who were leaning more towards disco. Powerful and creative prog-power metal. Still predictable to an extent.

Phi - Truckfighters
Excellent guitar work, instrumentally the album is brilliant. Not the most original album you'll ever hear, a fair few vocal weaknesses.

Postcards From Hell - Get Amped
An excellent display of melodic pop punk. Those that don't like pop punk will probably absolutely hate this.

Prepare To Be Let Down - Ruiner
A decent album of hardcore punk, incredibly fast and fun. Not the best album of this sort you will ever hear, no real depth of intelligence.

Quebec - Ween
Listen to it to hear the fun! Like all CDs, it ends!

Red Album - Baroness
An intelligent, well written and executed modern metal release. The majority of songs are merely great rather than outstanding.

Procession To The Infraworld - Chasm
Solid death metal performance. Less creative and thrilling than the last album.

Punishment For Decadence - Coroner
Great guitar performance from Tommy Vetterli. Still fairly standard thrash.
