Advantages: excellent vocals, relaxing to listen to
Disadvantages: none!
I first discovered Matchbox 20 when I heard the single 'Push' on MTV. I was immediately interested in this band, and wanted to know more. So, I went out and bought the single - a rare occurance for me, because i never buy singles. I listened to my three Matchbox 20 tracks over and over again, and came to the only obvious conclusion - I needed the album. After my purchase of this fine recording, I listened to it for seemingly ages. I was unable to drag it out of my stereo. There were a number of things that impressed me about this album. 1. The lead singer, Rob Thomas, has an absolutely beautiful voice. There's not other word to describe it. It's mellow, immediately recogniseable and perfectly fitted to the music he sings. If he sounds familiar, it's because he did the vocals on 'Smooth' by Santana. 2. The songs are, without exception, brilliant. They convey strong emotions, are melodic and they have an acoustic sound to them. 3. They randomly put their shoe sizes in the sleeve! Highlights of this album: Push. The reason I bought the album, and the reason I got into this band. A very strong and powerful song, which conveys depressing and angry emotions. Hang. An excellent end to the album, this track is quite, thought provoking and relaxing. Compared to their second album, this is more acoustic and slow - but has similar themes and musical arrangements. On a closing note: This has become the album that I lend to all my friends - and I've not yet found anyone who doesn't like it, regardless of their usual music tastes!
