The White Stripes brought us bluesy music, The Datsuns created the family link in the band and now Kings of Leon have burst onto the scene with a fusion of both. The three brothers’ and one cousin from Tennessee decided to create a band and named it after both their father and Grandfather Leon. The debut album Youth and Young Manhood was released through Hand Me Down Records earlier this year. The band are a rock band but in a similar way to the aforementioned White Stripes they have mixed in that Blues sound into a pretty rock laden album. However unlike The Datsuns, they have managed to make the family connection work in the band, as musically they seem ... Read the complete review

I bought this album after I had purchasing Only By The Night and Aha Shake Heartbreak, I think this is probably my favourite (though that is a tough decision to make!!) The album is not as poppy in style to the more recent offerings by KOL and it has a definite bluesy feel to it, taking inspiration form the bands southern rock and roll roots. Stand out tracks on the album for me are "Molly Chambers" "Trani" and the hidden track 'Talihina Sky' (which was, incidentally a B-Side on the single release of 'what I saw') Also tracks "Mollys Chambers" and "Red Morning Light" are taken from the albums first 2 EP releases, which I am ... I first heard Kings Of Leon whilst playinf Fifa 2004, Red Morning Light, the first track from this album was on the soundtrack. As soon as I heard it I loved it and I knew I had to hear more from this band. A couple of days later I went out and bought the album I was quickly blown away buy it, and was constantly listening to it. Th band is made up of brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followhill all born in Tennesee and there first cousin Matthew Followhill born in Oklahoma. What I love about this album is how raw it sounds, the voice of frontman Caleb Followhill ssuits the style of music perfectly although it takes a while to begin to ... Read the complete review

YOUTH AND YOUNG MANHOOD is an excellent album by the four man, indie rock band KINGS OF LEON. The album consists of eleven tracks ranging from fast paced to slower songs. The album opens with RED MORNING LIGHT which sets the tone of the album. The guitar kicks in instantly and really gives the music an edge. (2:59) HAPPY ALONE is a reallu upbeat track. The guitar and drums combine perfectly to make this a really catchy song. (3:59) WASTED TIME is again fast paced with the music providing alot of energy. Very powerful song. (2:45) JOE'S HEAD is a bit slower. However the lyrics are superb and combined with the vocals ... Read the complete review

I was mourning the state of mainstream popular music the other day, flicking through the upper echelons of Sky and realising that despite the multitude of channels, they were all stuffed to bursting with Christina Aguilera, Limp Bizkit and "The best 80's number ones...ever!", so imagine my surprise when following yet another gushing "Darkness" special (the only band who it appears can be described as riginal' nowadays apparently - despite the fact that they are poor imitation stadium rock from the early 70s! But I deigress...) I caught the video for "Molly's chambers". The most well known-track from the album is ... Read the complete review
