In the early 90's the Smashing Pumpkins were as much as areason for grunge as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. This album makes me remember why - apocolyptic drumming and a wall of sound emanating from Corgan. "Bleeding the Orchid", the third track is excellent and sounds tremendously cohesive and together and close to being a bang on classic. Zeitgeist was the first album released by the Smashing Pumpkins following their reunion in 2007, seven whole years after their last output as a four piece. And it really felt as if they had moved away from the dirge that was Adore and Mellon Collie and the Infinte Saddness and gone right back to the more rock orientated Siamese Dream. The band are shorn of James Iha and D'Arcy Wretzky and some will criticse that it shows, but the four of them had proved that they could not work together again.
