Synchronicity - The Police

Premium Review Marriage of Perfection (343 words)
by RockGirl - written on 21/06/01 (Very useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

The year is 1981. The Police are the biggest, most tempestuous, most furious band - a male marriage of three guys. Who would have thought that a guitar wizard named Andy Summers, a Newcastle english teacher named Gordon Sumner, and the son of an American CIA agent Stewart Copeland would make such a great team. Their gutsy playing, their legendary fights with Sting's mature lyrics, the Police were an unstoppable team. Synchronicity flung them right to the top of their field. Starting with 'Synchronicity I', a perfect blend of pacy tune and punchy lyrics, loud and raucous melody, it leads straight into 'Walking In Your Footsteps' which starts off soft ...

Premium Review Synchronise my city! (709 words)
by Bilbo Baggins - written on 24/01/02 (Very useful, 235 readings)
Rating:

tune but only made it to no. 17 in the UK charts. It's another feast of technical and rhythmical excellence. Not too much guitar wither showing how varied The Police could be. Wrapped around your Finger got to no. 3 in the UK charts, another sing-along demonstrating an intelligent drum, beat and use of sparse but effective synths. A delayed guitar effect and plenty of reverb come through clearly on the next track. Very chilled out and suitable for background music when wining and dining your loved one. This brings me to Murder by Numbers and the album's conclusion. A mixture of jazz and pop it's a strange end to a superb 45 minutes of listening time. ...

Outlandos D'amour - The Police

Premium Review I've got a Police Record and I'm proud of it. (951 words)

It's 1979, my clothes aren't lairy but it's a close run thing. I'm rushing to The record shop before it closes to buy the debut album of a new group called Police. The lead singer's a bit of alright, especially with his short blonde hair and army keks, and I think I'm falling in love again. I buy the record. It's fate. There's a track called "Be My Girl Sally". This is too much. I run all the way home and slap the LP on the turntable, drop the arm on MY track and settle back to wallow in self-indulgent delciousness. It kicks off with a good beat. "Will ya be my girl, will ya be my girl, will ya be my, be my, be my ...

Punk roots still hold their own against the oppressive hardcore and metal elements. Lacks any kind of originality or self-worth.

A moment when punk met new wave and we were introduced to the powerful voice of Moyet One very disturbing track full of introverted sullen themes

A true show of the talent of Barat & Doherty that is unmarred by Doherty's current life Some of the songs on the album seem to be just fillers

New Wave & Post-punk - 2003

Fun and competent debut release. Only 'Sensory Overload' really stands out as an early classic.

Great songs, Original Some weak links
