Advantages: good range of songs

Disadvantages: tacky

Nothing beats an evening in with some mates and a karaoke disc or three. This is a neat little collection of some real party classics to kick start any party. I have handpicked some of the songs which could really sort out your night!

Now obviously, these are all instrumental versions, so keep that in mind! We are off to a good start with Abba's 'Waterloo.' The song is very uplifting and lends itself well to being done as a duet. On a similar keel, Bucks Fizz is more eurovision madness and will thrill those who like it uber camp.

If you're after something more refined, Andy Williams could be up your street. This will please older men and uncles who will like a good croon. At the opposite end of the spectrum, disco maniacs will be lapping up the Bee Gees. I have done this at karaoke and my high pitched Barry Gibb impression went down a treat, with me and my friend.

Steer clear of 'Living Next Door To Alice' which is just inviting rowdy blokes to start swearing.

Disc two has some gems in the form of Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl' and 'Never Gonna Give You Up' by Rick Astley, so you can even try and pull off Rick's hideous dance moves too! For something more soulful, Lionel Richie is at hand. I heard someone do this on holiday, nothing will ever touch Lionel, but it remains a firm party favourite.

In the light of recent events, give The Jacksons a miss, it just wouldn't be right tackling that one. Move onto the third disc though and you will be greeted by more Abba. 'Mamma Mia' has risen in popularity thanks to the hit film, so is bound to please housewifey sorts.

Things get more up to date with Britney, just have that school uniform to hand and a good wig. Buggles is pretty hard to sing, especially as his voice is all processed on the original version. Head instead to 'Lipstick On Your Collar' for a bit of glam, before winding things down with the sad old 'American Pie'.

This is a solid compilation, a good mix of stuff for all tastes and useful for parties.

Summary: tacky but fun
