The balcony overlooks the stage on three sides, and if you don't feel like getting too excited, this is the place for you. The opening of the Academy in Birmingham is probably one of the best things to happen music-wise in Brum for a while. For all too long, Britain's second city has suffered as band after band does a National tour, yet doesn't make a stop in Brum. OK, Birmingham boasts the NIA and the NEC, both great arenas, but they just don't attract rock bands. They get the sit-down pop acts like Steps and all that lot. Not my cuppa tea. The Academy has hopefully changed all that. It's a venture started by the same people who run the Brixton Academy and the Shepherd's Bush Empire down in London, so it seems likely that bands playing one of those venues might ...
