Advantages: Loads of top bands, Good value, Great spirit
Disadvantages: Cost, Travel, Exploding toilets
The tradition of the rock festival is a long one. While our parents were rocking out at Knebworth and Woodstock, our modern day equivalents aren't so bad in comparison. Sure there are the cons of these gigantic events, but the pros do far outweigh them. I'll go through the cons first. It takes a long time to get there. To Leeds fesival (my "Local" rock festival) takes over two hours to get there It's very expensive. There's the ticket, the tent, the food while you're there . . . the list goes on The toilets explode . . .. That's about it for the cons Here's the pros You get exceptional value for money. . . at leeds there are 3 days packed with bands, each of which people would pay (minimum) £10 to see. 10 bands a day . . . 3 days . . . lots of money for tickets individually. The spirit at these gigs is amazing. The people are cool, the music's cool, even rain is cool when you're there. You get to see bands you wouldn't otherwise see. Last year I saw My Vitriol ("Who" i hear you ask . . .) - a virtually unheard of band, but i enjoyed them. How else would I have heard of them. You get to see big name bands. Rage, Slipknot, Maralyn Manson, Muse, Eminem, Green Day, Travis, all appeared or appearing at leeds over the last couple o years. Festivals are what you make them. You can see them for the mud and the spit and the sweatclouds . . . . or for the great fun the majority of people think that they are, me included
