Advantages: The Prodigy, Blur, Reef

Disadvantages: The weather, Ticket Price, Securitys Attitude

My first festival (aged 16) was the immense V97 . I was yet to experience the pure rush of crowd surfing and jumping mad to the beats of a tune , I was to discover these on the first morning . An up-and-coming band called Linoleum were on quite early , I thought they were good but no-one paid much attention , in-fact the crowds were fairly liberal and restrained , that was until REEF graced the stage . 'Put your hands on' squeeled the lead singer , and the hands went up , the bottles were thrown , and the time was had - madness . They lit that years V-festival and the standard was set then for the rest of the weekend . Blur headlined the Saturday (which I was right at the front were) and proved what an immense live performance they were , and then The Prodigy headlined the Sunday (Chelmsford) which showed us all what dance music is really all about - a sea of people moving as one , truly awe inspiring . Also it helped for the atmosphere when just before they played 'Firestarter' Thunder and lightning began in the constrains of Highlands Park , like the weather was matching the feel of the music . That festival set my attitude and love for music and saw me venture out every summer since for the festival to match it - but will I ever find one ? And is any festival ever any better than your very first ?
