Advantages: unique, beautiful, stunning

Disadvantages: none

Within the last 2 years i have discovered one of the most influencial bands. Their music takes a hold of you and embraces with its originality and depth. I am of course talking about Idlewild! The remote part is their new album following on from 100 Broken windows. If you have ever listened to 100 broken windows and appreciated it by listening to it repeatedly then you may have had the same apprehensions as myself as to what The remote part may sound like and whether it could possibly live up to their previous album which was truly stunning!

I was not disapointed and have to bow down to these guys, topping broken windows must have seemed impossible and in the words of my boyfriend "was an album that was just made at the right time in the right place and has a special feel that was captured"

What i love about their music is the fact that the more you listen to their work the more you grow to love it! Each track seems to grow and develop in your heart and blows you away more and more every time you listen!.

So i have rambled on enough about why you should listen to this, but here's a run down of each track and what each one can bring to you!

You held the world in your arms!
The first single released off this album delivering an upbeat and positive feel with immense drums and a so many riffs coming together in a beautiful way that truly uplift you in every way. Ending with subtle violin expanding and becoming more powerful this track will move you! Ive never grown tired of this track and as with before delivers time and time again maturing in sound and emotion!

A modern way of living!
A heavier side to idlewild shown here, with heavy base and lyrically more aggressive. the chorus is very powerful becoming softer and more instrumental!
On reflection this track is very powerful and i assure you that you'll be reaching for those imaginary drumsticks! I wasn't too keen to begin with but
as with all of Idlewild tracks, it will grow on you and you learn to become passionate about this track!

American English!
What can't i say about this track, truly my favourite in every way. would you be surprised to hear that i hated it to begin with! and i'm sure you will too. Now whenever i listen to it i just become lost in the music and in roddy's voice! a fantastic mixture of guitar and strings and idlewild's unbelievable way of creating stirring emotion come together to make your heart yearn to hear more! I thought this track was bland when i first heard it! i couldn't have been more wrong, it's almost as if when you let go of expectations that you understand the true hidden beauty of this track!

I never wanted
I like this track for its lyrics, i really feel as though i can relate to them. they are stunning and yet so simple, a technique that idlewild have down to a fine art. what i have noticed about idlewild is that their lyrics actually repeat quite often! usually seen as a downpoint to songs it seems to work very well for them, you dont notice the chorus' being made up of all the same lines and instead this seems to help build up the song until it develops and releases in a beautiful cresendo of emotion and music!

(i am) what i am not!
a punky rock beginning to this track really gets you going and reaching for the air guitar again! but of course idlewild bring another side to this track! The chorus is wonderful and uses it's repetitive technique to build up the song! The verse is powerful and the lyrics hard and yet very harmonic at the same time! this track really offers so much!

Live in a hiding place!
a very nice soft acoustic start to this track, breaking away from rock altogether. this is truly simplistically beautiful! in comes the drums and bass which together leads to a wonderful fast beat chorus! there are some wonderful harmonics in this track and is alm
ost folk like! the lyrics are very soft and i relate to them very well, i need to sing along to this track.

Out of routine
a heavy bass beginning with drums which then pans out into a nice soft verse. the lyrics are wonderful, and this is very "Smiths"! Roddy appears to have developed a wonderful new technique with his vocals!
The chorus is amazing and uses its repetitve technique in the best way out of all the tracks on thsi albums! i love this track, and ideal for listenin to in the car! dont get too carried away! this track certainly has captured something i can't explain!

Century after century!
This track has a punk rock side to it to begin, it apperas to have a meloncholy side to it! A feeling that the song never gets going and it is not my favourite1 however, i am sure that this track would compliment a sunny smmers evening! i'm not sure but thats the emotion i relate it to! you are neither particulary happy or saddened by it! Idlewild appear to be able to relate a feeling and memory to their tracks which is a truly original talent to posses.

Tell me ten words!
Beginning with acoustic again in a very simple but beautiful way! leading to a more upbeat and pleasant sound! again this song makes me associate a feeling that i am happy but something is not quite right! The chorus is wonderful and i enjoy it very much with its use of acoustic and subtle electric guitar! a very artistic track with many different sounds combining!

Stay the same!
Heavy start with feedback maintaining throughout the song. The chorus delivers a wonderful lyrical and guitar piece! Again idlewild capture a meaning that is not at first obvious but can be understood through listening again and again! i like thsi tracks emotion, it seems somewhat depressive but makes me smile inside! and i'm not sure why!

The remote part/scottish fiction
As before with 100 broken windows idlewild are roundin
g off a stunning album witha melody! A very inspiring and stunning intro using acoustic and soft electric and later piano! The song beats in a slow and methodic way and i can only describe as carrying you along through the song very peacefully! Amid the song it begins to become heavy which almost wakes you from your peace and makes you more aware of the words being spoken! by whom i am not sure but this compliments the track wonderfully and the guitar and then heavy piano at the end makes emotions run high! i'm almost moved to tears, maybe thats because the album is finished and i dont want it to end!

As you can tell i love this album. in the same way i can appreciate to and relate with 100 broken windows!
Idlewild's music really captivates you and will isolate you from the outside world as you listen. since discovering this band i would say i have discovered a new dimension to music! As if there is something hidden in their songs that release a new type of appreciation and emotion for music! How many bands can you say have done that!
For me what i ultimately love about Idlewild is the wya their music is irregular and does not keep with any pattern or even genre! they are not afraid to let their music be guided by their hearts and i feel this is why their songs are so powerful!
I highly recommend you listen to their music! If you dont you have really missed out on something truly unique and special!
