Newest Review: ... and after a lengthy stage change- compared to the intervals between the other bands- JJ72 at last came on. Firstly- the drummer Fergal Matthews had twisted his ankle during a secret warm-up show in Derby, and impressively denied rumours of leaving the tour by playing the drum kit backwards. Soon, Mark Greaney, vocalist/guitars and Hilary Woods, bass player were on stage and the show kicked off, but I a completely different direction than I had hoped. Last night I managed to see JJ72 in concert. They were virtually headlining the NME Carling Awards tour 2001 (see my ‘Indie, Northern Soul and Metal’ opinion), along with the acts Amen (see my ‘Say a Prayer for Metal’ opinion), Alfie and Star Sailor. JJ72 are meant to be the next best thing that the music industry will provide and when I went to see them at The Leadmill, Sheffield last November I fully agreed, the songs and the band both my best gig since moving to Sheffield.
