Richard AshcroftNewest Review: ... seen the Verve live I had expected Ashcroft to be a bit lost on stage and his renditions of Verve tracks to be not as good. How wrong I was, Ashcroft is superb his vocals and guitar were note perfect and this was matched by excellent backing singers and musicians. If you liked the Verve then I recommend you see Richard Ashcroft in concert. If you have never heard the Verve then buy both 'Urban Hymns' and Ashcroft's solo album 'Alone With Everybody', one of the best albums of 2000. ... more |

Having been a fan of the Verve I was keen to see their former frontman and main song writer on his solo tour. I was originally due to see him in December 2000 but the gig was cancelled due to Richard falling off stage in Birmingham so I eventually got to see him in February 2001 at the Brixton Academy.After the anticlimax of the cancelled show I was just grateful to see Ashcroft on stage but it didn't take long before all the hasle was forgotten and I was immersed in the amazing music of a great song writer.
