Advantages: Awesome sound
Disadvantages: Can't go all night
The Stereophonics are a band I have seen live 4 times now and plan to make it 5 in the very near future. Kelly Jones has a truly remarkable voice on a CD, but it just goes into a completely new stratosphere when being used in a live arena.
The band have always been full of energy and gustoe in their songs and this transforms terrifically well into their live performances. I have seen them play 3 arena venues like the Hallam FM arena in Sheffield and the big one for the band in their home country and national stadium the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. That gig was around the time of their 'Just Enough Education to Perform' album and I will never forget the feeling created there from new classics to be like 'Mr Writer' and 'Step on my old size nines'.
Of course, some things remain consistent at all of their concerts, even though the exact band line up has changed a little and that is the playing of all the great upbeat and uplifting anthums that they have released over the years. If you see the band live then you are sure to be treated to 'A Thousand Trees', 'Local Boy in the Photograph', 'Bartender and the Thief', 'Handbags and Gladrags' and many more.
The Stereophonics usually do atleast a 90 minute set and spend a fair while chatting to the crowd between hits which is something I normally dislike but Kelly is a funny guy as well as being really cute.
The 'Phonics' tend to offer a bit of variety sometimes in how the songs are performed. For instance, at some live gigs you will hear 'Traffic' played as a normal electric band but in others they will play it acoustically. I am sure this keeps it interesting for the band and the audience.
Go see them, you won't regret it.
Summary: Go see them, you won't regret it.
