The Brits in general
Advantages: FANTASTIC LIVE PERFORMERS.
Disadvantages: POPSTARS OR JUST TOO MUCH POP AND E NUMBERS.
What a complete load of old cods wallop graced our screens last night in the guise of the Brit awards. I remember when I was a child, I thought the Brits was the coolest show to grace our tv screens. As I have got older my love for the Brit awards has never died. Until last night when I was left thinking if this is the best of British then guys we are in deep trouble!!
Firstly the host Peter Kay was just trying to hard to be funny. Most of the time his jokes fell on deaf ears and made for awkward viewing. I liked his no nonsense approach and one or two of his quips were amusing. However I think he failed to realise that this show was not about him. He found it very hard to share the limelight and pulled out underhanded jokes in an obvious attempt to gain himself some attention.
One of these quips was to Cheryl cole who did an outstanding performance of fight for this love. Kay then joked never a truer word spoken. Making an obvious dig to claims of cheryls husbands Ashleys recent infidelity. I think was a cheap joke and one which I thought a comedian of kays high calibre would stay clear of.
All of the live performances were great musical extravaganzas. But I couldnt help but notice that either the sound was delayed or all the artists were miming badly. Cheryl cole for me was exceptional and blew all the other acts out of the water. Her dancing was amazing and she reminded me of Michael Jackson in parts.
The night was dominated by the wierd and wondefully crazy Lady Gaga. Who was dressed in what resembled my nanas nets. She is very strange and at times I struggled to concentrate on what she was saying when accepting her awards as I was so astounded by her appearance.
All the stars who were presenting awards appeared to be lost. They didnt seem to appear relaxed on stage but more like rabbits caught in the headlights. The most pathetic appearance of the night was Jonathan Ross. He again is a man who craves attention. He appeared on stage trying to look like a hip and cool rap star. I am assuming this was suppose to be a joke, but he just ended up looking like a fool. Like an embarrasing relative at a wedding!!
The most idiotic moment of the night must be awarded to the fella that every mother craves their child to look up to as a role model. Mr Liam Gallagher. This idiot swaggered onto the stage, shouted a load of inaudible rubbish littered with expletives. Threw his microphone into the audience and then swaggered off. I was just left looking at the tv thinking what a "silly man" (yeah right)
This leads me on to the moment of the night award. This has to be given to the host Peter Kay. Yes I know he grated on my nerves but all was forgiven when he walked up to centre stage after Liam had just made such a show of himself. Kay looked straight into the camera and said "What a knob head" At this point I nearly choked on my hot chocolate.(oh yes I lead a rock and roll lifestyle too!!) I loved Kays brutal honesty and the fact that he had the nerve to say what every one else was thinking.
Hairstyle of the night has got to be awarded to miss Lilly allen. Who was sporting a bright orange annie esque wig. She looked totally foolish. However I liked her quirky nature and both her live performance, which opened the show and her acceptance speech was one of the most honest and aspiring speeches of the night.
Robbie williams was given a lifetime achievement award. I find this incredible considering he is only in his early 30s. But I do agree that he is a total pop star. Not like the bunch of wierdos who graced our screens last night. He was the ultimate professional, dressed in a cool black tie and suit he looked funky and modern but classy at the same time. His ability to captivate the audience is something which some of the acts could only dream of.
Most pointless person of the night award must be given to Fern Cotton. Now I usually like Fern I find her quirky and cool but last night I felt she looked really nervous. She was asking the most mundane questions and seemed to be treading on egg shells in fear of the acts going off on one and swearing all over the show. I thought her interview technique was quite poor and lacked any substance at all. I did think she looked pretty though in her poka dot dress. I totally love her fashion sense.
When thinking of last nights Brits I am quite sad and somewhat un nerved. Why? Because these 'pop stars' are suppose to be role models for our children. Yes pop stars have always had a reputation for being a bit wild and not afraid to court controversy. However there was always a role model such as the spice girls who stood for girl power. But last night I struggled to think of one inspiring role model out of these bunch of misfits. It seemed to me when watching the Brit awards last night, that drinking and swearing are such cool things to do.
I was so not impressed with this years Brit awards. I am hoping with all my heart that it was because it was pretty rubbish when compared to other years and not because I am turning into my granny. My granny does not understand how people can listen to todays music. She wonders how on earth you can do the two step to smack my bitch up and would much prefer Daniel O donnell.
Please god dont let me be too old to appreciate the Brit awards!! In all seriousness though, I dont think the show was up to much last night. It seemed hap hazard and poor quality. The shows performances were excellent though and of a really high standard with each act trying to outdo the other. But as for the awards and the speeches I just thought it was poor.
Summary: DOES BRIT STAND FOR BE REALLY IRRITATING TOSSERS???
