Advantages: Some great musical performances

Disadvantages: Peter Kay

I'm a huge fan of the Brits so like many of us, I tuned in the other night to watch this years awards. I can't say that I was too impressed though.

Peter Key hosted this year but I wouldn't have missed him if he didn't. I would have been much happier if different people had just presented the awards all night or there were more musical performances. Kay was trying way too hard to be funny and I didn't end up laughing at any of his jokes because of this. He wasn't funny at all. His dig at Cheryl Cole after her performance was untactful and cheap and I don't think a lot of people would have seen the funny side of this, considering what is going on in the media at the moment.

Overall, the musical performances were what made the night. I loved the duets between Dizzy Rascal and Florence, Jay Z and Alicia Keys as well as Cheryl Cole. Her performance was great and good on her for doing her best even though the she's having a hard time at the minute. Although I kind of understood where Lady Gaga was coming from, I was left quite unimpressed. Like Gerri Halliwell said, I would have preferred to have heard songs that I already knew and that would have made her performance a lot better in my eyes.

Gaga did steal the show though, winning three awards which were well deserved. As for her acceptance speeches, I could barely hear a word that she said and it looked as though she was going to cry the whole way through. Keeping with the bad acceptances...Liam Gallagher. How ungrateful and rude he was. He didn't deserve to be on the stage. Although he is known as a bad boy, his behaviour was disgusting. He threw his microphone and award into the crowds which caused a lot of commotion but because of that, he didn't deserve to have it.

Lilly Allen...another who didn't deserve to be there. While her performance was good and I hate to admit that I like some of her songs, no one should have let her be there after the way she slagged off the awards a while back. Her outfit was ugly and she said she didn't want to be noticed but who isn't going to get noticed wearing an orange wig and looking like an umpalumpa?! Poor Leona Lewis has never won an award and seemed to know that she wouldn't again this year. I know who I would have given it to.

I was glad to see that Robbie Williams won the lifetime achievement award. It's lovely to see the country welcome him back so warmly after so much time away. His medley of songs seemed tired and boring, with him relying on audience participation as he always does to get through the set. He knows he hasn't got the best voice in the world and tries to cover this up a little.

2010 wasn't the best year for the Brits but at least the singers were great. Let's hope next year is better.

Summary: Only 3 stars for this year.
