Advantages: Not too crowded
Disadvantages: A little spread out in venues
Yes, why don't you give the Wath festival a try this year? I went for the first time in 2000 and I can say it was superb. There were top line folk singers there, Kate Rusby, Grace Notes (who are they you ask? a brilliant trio with Maggie Boyle as one of them - need I say more, Ruth and Gary Wells, Dave Burland, John Tams Band, Acaysha and lots more. The venues were all sort of spread out and I thought you did need a car if you moved around but if you planned it out you could get to see your singers with not much of a problem, In pubs, clubs, you were sure of a seat in comfort. It was also easy to get food hot or cold up to late evening, then you had to rely on pub food/snacks Small place Wath, and it's just off the M1, the only problem is the sort of ring road that gets you there is plagued with roundabouts, in fact there is a folk song written about the subject. There was street entertainment with a maypole as well (haven't seen one of them in ages)All in all it was well worth it and at only £15 for the weekend you just could not complain. Oh! the final concert was a knockout, they used the college premises to host it and you had room to stretch your legs while the bar supplied all you could want in the way of drinks. Try it this time eh!
