      Very helpful

Well worth it for serious DIYers and tradesmen

When my husband and I purchased our new home it was definately what you'd call a 'doer upper'! It literally needed everything new, new kitchen, new bathroom, new windows and doors, floors, the lot. So to make it a bit easier for us we bought some tools which would make jobs quicker and simpler (we only had a month to make it livable) and also would last us. We bought an electric handheld sander, a workbench, and a few other items including this Stanley Bostitch GBT7850K-U.

We purchased it from Screwfix when they were running a sale and we puchased it at the great price of £250 including VAT, this is amazing as usually it's £320 ish. It sounds a lot considering most people for DIY would use a good old hammer and nails but we knew we had a LOT of work to do far beyond the usual call of everyday household DIY.

We went for Stanley as a brand as it's a british brand and it's well known, we felt we were getting some quality with a decent name behind it. There is a manufacturer's warranty included.

The Stanley Bostitch GBT7850K-U fires 15 - 50 mm nails so it's suitable for a variety of jobs from light work and flat packs to harder jobs like putting up our shed and hanging the kitchen cupboards. At 1.8kg it's not too heavy considering the two lithium ion rechargable batteries (we leave it to charge overnight and it lasts a good 4 hours of continued use) and it has a decent rubberised grip so you can keep a hold of it. It has a sequential firing action so you can nail as fast (or as slow) as you need to and always feel in control. Each magazine holds 100 nails and they are loaded into the side of the nailer rather than into the top. The head is easily and safely removed for fast jam clearance, but after six months of labour intensive use we have never encountered a jam.

It comes complete with 100 nails, a recharging cable (3 pin mains) and a carry case which is hard and durable. It also comes with a car charger, it must be our car or maybe it's just the power it needs but after a 1 hour charge the nailer would run for maybe five minutes. It's far better to charge it via the mains, I think there is limited power from a car charger.

I have to say that this was a great buy. OK it's a bit on the pricey side for occasional use but if you have a lot of DIY to do, a house refurb, or you're in the trade, then this is a great tool to have. It really does do the job well and it's saved us so much time and effort over manual nailing. We put our shed together in just over an hour, there must have been 250 nails all told, this would have taken the best part of a day by hand! It's just so easy to use and I can see this lasting us for a long time. It's something you'll only buy if you really need it but I highly recommend the Stanley Bostitch GBT7850K-U, it's a great tool and well worth the money.
